Opposition against Stephen
(Act 6:8-15; 7:1-10): Filled with the Holy Spirit, Stephen preached the word of
God. Then, certain men of the synagogue disputed with him, but they were unable
to gainsay him. So, they conspired and leveled false accusations against him.
He was arrested and tried at the Council. During his trial, he preached a very
long sermon which touched them, but they hardened their hearts, and convicted
him and stoned him to death. While he was dying, he prayed to God for their
forgiveness.
