Meaning:
A republican government is a type of government in which the people (public)
are allowed to exercise their right to elect their own president. It is a
representative democracy in which government is by the consent of the people.
Such a state is called a Republic – Re (represent); Public (the people)= a
government that represent the people.
Features: (1) Sovereignty of the people (2) Rule of law
(3) periodic election (4) Term of office (5)accountability of the government to
the people (6) Equality before the law
