Duties of Pedestrians
Pedestrians are persons that go along the road on foot. They are contrasted with those that travel in a vehicle. Both pedestrians and drivers are road users, and are therefore susceptible to road accidents. Just like drivers and cyclists, pedestrians owe a duty of care to other people using sidewalks and roadways.
If a pedestrian breaches this duty of care, and injuries result, he or she would be liable just like anyone else. If a careless pedestrian causes damage to your vehicle, you could sue the pedestrian for negligence and receive compensation for your repair expenses.
You could also use evidence of the pedestrian’s breach of duty as a defense if the pedestrian sues you for negligence after an accident. For example, if you can show that a pedestrian failed to exercise reasonable caution, you could face reduced or vacated liability for the accident.
Here are some of pedestrians’ duties:
  1. They must cross the road at a right angle, or take the shortest route possible when crossing
  2. They must not cross suddenly in front of oncoming traffic
  3. They must use sidewalks if provided. If there are no sidewalks, they must walk on the left side of the road
  4. They must obey all traffic signals
The roles of drivers in reducing road accidents
1.       A driver must undergo a driving course
2.       A driver should put on seatbelt while driving
3.       He must have mastery of many different traffic situations
4.       driver must, while driving, interact with other road users, be able to anticipate their behaviour and also make it possible for other drivers to understand and anticipate his or her driving behavior
5.       The driver must carry out a periodic inspection on the car to ascertain its road worthiness.
6.       He must give preference to pedestrians and children crossing the road
He should read caution signs: Caution signs are very important as they warn about accident prone spots so that the driver can reduce the speed of the vehicle. Signboards on
